Understanding your client’s business

Understanding your client’s business is one of the key factors in creating a successful brand. It’s not enough to have a few meetings with the client, you really need to submerse yourself in the business and get a full understanding of what it is about.

Last week Mike and I spent four days in the French Alps with a new client to get our heads around exactly what he is trying to do and get an understanding of the process, the product and the market. We travelled, ate, drank and stayed with the client the whole time and within that time we got it. It was an intense piece of learning and we still have a lot of work to do but we truly understand the business now.

I can’t imagine having an understanding of someone’s business without doing this now. So if you have a client go and spend some time with them. Put yourself in their shoes. It’ll be worth it.
