Spotlight Friday- Belfast Giants

Fridays seem to come around so quickly at the minute.

There is never a “normal” week in the Pale Blue Dot offices, (though what is normal?). We have been recording VO’s, talking digital strategies, coding and wire framing and having a kick around with Rio Ferdinand. Don’t believe us? Yesterday we blogged about the importance of communicating clearly to create more simplicity. Establishing a clear voice helps keep an idea concise and impactful. Our guests this week for Spotlight Friday are a group whose voice does just that on and off the ice. Residing at the SSE Arena and taking on the Nottingham Panthers tonight at 7.00 pm they are none other than Belfast’s own Stena Line Belfast Giants.

Impactful is stating the obvious. The Giants have won 8 major championships, are three times winners of the Elite Ice Hockey League and two times champions of the Erhardt Conference. Dynamic and exciting, they are the team to watch in the EHL and a team whose innovative and maverick style matches that of our agency. With a great 6-2 win over the Dundee Stars on Tuesday past, the Giants will enter tonight with a good amount of confidence. There were lots of positives for Belfast’s side to take forward into the second leg of the challenger cup semi-final against the Cardiff Devils taking place next week on the 23rd February. We will be cheering here in the office for the men all weekend, and our own Scott Edgar will be down at the ice to see it all in action.

Aside from being one of the best events on at the weekend and an unmissable attraction to see when visiting Belfast. The Giants are as tech savvy as they are goal savvy, with an incredible arena presence on and offline. Already active on the usual suspects for social, the Giants have amassed a presence of well over 80,000. Not content with just anchoring themselves on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to amass a responsive and informative digital community for enhancing game day experience. The Giants have gone further to create space for the unique community of regular 1000+ season ticket holders and avid fans of the game using Giants TV and Audio Boom to develop a more immersive experience.

Giants TV powered by our client Cyril Johnston is visually powerful. Full of match updates, player interviews, exclusive content during games it breaks down the glass between the players and fans creating a stronger relationship. The use of Audio Boom is a particular favourite of ours with digital on demand audio clips, enriching our pre and post-game experience with exclusives from players, general manager Steve Thornton and commercial manager Mark Brooks. Smart use of technology makes sure that each season’s campaign is visually and audibly more powerful than the last. We are looking forward to further innovations from the team that will bring us even closer to the ice.

Our agency team are specialists in responsive and consumer engagement campaigns. We are advocates of full and immersive customer experiences and it is great to see one of Belfast’s best professional sports teams strategically picking the best channels for their brand to create that. What the Giants have done for their 2015/2016 season in devising consistently engaging and lively platforms deserves to be applauded.
